![]() Although she is the only one to be featured on the official Disney Princess lineup, Tiger Lily from Peter Pan was actually the first.ħ. Pocahontas was actually not the first Native American princess in a Disney movie. Beyoncé could have voiced the role of Tiana in Princess and the Frog, but she refused to audition and lost the role to her Dreamgirls co-star Anika Noni Rose.Ħ. It was about time for a sassy, red-headed princess!ĥ. The last princess before that was Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, which was released in 1959. When The Little Mermaid was released in 1989, Ariel became the first Disney princess in 30 years. Pocahontas is the only princess based on a real person (the real Pocahontas was born in the late 1500s!).Ĥ. The trolls (and possibly Kristoff, since he is adopted by the trolls.) could of have knowledge or praticed Germanic paganism from the medieval period.3. They would be part of the Anglican Church since some monarchy separated from the church earlier in the 1500's and 1600's to secure their line of the throne or to not let the Catholic Church influence their rule or their kingdom's religious freedom. Depending on what region of Scotland or tribe she was from, she would either been a Germanic or Roman paganist or converted to catholicism depending what part of the medieval period she originated from.Īnna & Elsa - they are based in the late 1700's or Early 1800's (estimated to be during or in the middle of the Napoleanic Era) Norway. ![]() Merida- again based in the medieval period. She was either protestant or catholic when she was reunited with her parents. ![]() I estimate her exact time period to between the time of the Spanish Inquisition & The Thirty Years War. She dates back to the 1500's Germany, however, the movie seem to be based in the later period where there were conflicts between protestants and catholics in the region. Rapunzel- she is another character where her movie was based during the existance of protestanism. There was a mix of protestanism & catholicism in the region. Tiana- since the movie was based in the 1920's New Orleans. For example there was Daoism, Buddism, Conficism, etc. Mulan- christianity and islam did not exist in ancient China during her time, there were many philosipical religions in China at that time. However there were paganism (Sumerian, Mesopotamian, etc.) & possibly Judaism in the region. Jasmine- her story was based in early arabic times, where Islam didn't come into existance yet. Pocahontas- she is originally native american, she mostly worship her Powhantan earth like religion, but she laters marries John Rolfe who is anglican/puritan in real life. Snow White- since the movie is based in 1500's Germany, she mostly like would be a protestant christian (lutheran to be exact since the reformation did take place in the 1500's and was started in Germany by Martin Luther.)Ĭinderella- she could either be protestant or catholic since the original story is debated to be based in Germany or France.Īurora- most likely catholic since the church had high power in Europe during her time in the medieval period.Īriel- she could mostly likely be Greek based paganist but could of converted to anglican or catholic christianity when she married Prince Eric.īelle- since the movie is based in pre-revolutionary France, she would have had the catholic faith since it was a dominate christian denomination. ![]() Pocahontas believed in the law of nature (mother earth) and Mulan practiced traditional Chinese ancestor worship. The last two are easy because they actually talk about their religion in the movie. On the other hand she appears to live in the Ta Mahal which wasn't built until the 1600's so let's just say she lives in a fictional Muslim country. So she should be worshiping the old pagan pantheon. However that is technically inaccurate as the movie seems to set in the era of the arabian nights, before the formation of Islam. Jasmine is Muslim as her father mentions Allah. The same goes for 1920's new Orleans and Tiana. The same goes for Repunzel.īelle however lives in 1700s France which was predominately Catholic. It was just expected, even if it wasn't specifically mentioned.Īriel is tricky because the underwater kingdom and I believe Eric's human kingdom are fictional and there is no reference to any religion. At the time their movies were made (30s to 60's) there was no other option. The first three (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) are certainly Christian.
